Research Areas

Our Scientific Focus

MRMP research spans six interconnected domains, from organoid bioengineering through postpartum endocrinology. Our labs collaborate closely, and many of our most significant advances have emerged at the intersection of disciplines.

Organoid Lab

Organoid Biology & Bioengineering

The Zhao Laboratory focuses on the design, cultivation, and vascularization of patient-specific uterine organoids. Current work targets angiogenic signaling pathways to reduce rejection risk and improve long-term organoid function.

Dr. Zhao, PINIH R01 Funded
Stem Cell Research

iPSC Reprogramming & Stem Cell Therapy

Research into optimizing induced pluripotent stem cell derivation from male somatic cells, with a focus on reducing epigenetic drift and improving the fidelity of gestational tissue differentiation.

Dr. Vasquez, PIHHMI Funded
Endocrinology

Reproductive Endocrinology

Hormonal priming and gestational support protocols, including novel progesterone analogue regimens that have reduced premature organoid detachment by 28% in our most recent cohort.

Dr. Voss, PINIH R01 Funded
Surgical Innovation

Surgical Technique & Innovation

Development and refinement of minimally invasive implantation and delivery procedures, including the MRMP-developed laparoscopic organoid positioning system (LOPS) now in Phase II evaluation.

Dr. Okonkwo, PINIH R01 Funded
Genetics

Genomics & Genetic Counseling

Expanded preconception carrier screening panels, NIPT protocol adaptation for male gestational pregnancies, and research into epigenetic influences on offspring development and long-term health.

Dr. Park, PIGates Foundation
Behavioral Health

Psychosocial & Behavioral Health

Longitudinal study of psychological outcomes, identity formation, and family dynamics among MRMP patients and their partners. First multi-site dataset of its kind, with 8-year follow-up data now available.

Dr. Lindqvist, PINIH R01 Funded
Active Clinical Trials

Current Studies

The MRMP currently operates six IRB-approved clinical trials open to participant enrollment. All trials are registered at ClinicalTrials.gov.
