The latest research results, program milestones, grant awards, and events from the Male Reproductive Medicine Program.
The Harrington Male Reproductive Medicine Program celebrated a landmark achievement this month as the 300th patient enrolled in the program delivered a healthy infant via the Cesarean Extraction pathway. The milestone underscores the program's growing safety record and the maturation of HUOI technology over nearly two decades of clinical application.
"Three hundred families," said Program Director Dr. Eleanor Voss. "Every one of them trusted us with something extraordinary. This milestone belongs to them, and to every member of our team who has worked toward this since 2008."
A new paper from the Harrington Organoid Research Laboratory, published in Nature Biomedical Engineering, describes a novel angiogenic signaling approach called ANGIO-X that reduces organoid rejection rates by 41% in a cohort of 88 patients. The technique involves a proprietary combination of VEGF analogue delivery and mechanical scaffold modification that promotes more rapid and stable peritoneal vascularization.
"This is the most significant improvement in organoid survival we have achieved since the program's founding," said Dr. Zhao. "We expect ANGIO-X to become the standard of care within two years."
The National Institutes of Health has awarded a five-year R01 grant to the MRMP to support expansion of the Transanal Assisted Delivery pathway. The TAD-EXTEND trial, led by Dr. Samuel Ferrara, aims to enroll 200 additional participants by 2028 and will establish the largest safety and outcomes database for the procedure to date. The grant also funds development of a TAD training simulator for surgical education programs nationwide.
The 12th Annual MRMP Symposium, held October 24–26 at the Harrington University Conference Center, attracted a record 600 registered attendees from 28 countries. Keynote lectures addressed HUOI technology advances, comparative outcomes of CE vs. TAD delivery, expanded genetic screening, and emerging ethical frameworks for male gestational medicine. Proceedings will be published in a special issue of Reproductive BioMedicine Online in early 2026.
The MRMP is now accepting applications for two positions in its two-year ACGME-accredited Clinical Fellowship in Male Reproductive Medicine. The fellowship provides comprehensive training in reproductive endocrinology, HUOI surgical technique, gestational management, and postpartum care. The application deadline is December 1, 2025.
